“So let me get this straight”
I head André say to her. “You’re running away because… you’re bored.” He said the last part
as if he couldn’t believe her.
“Yes” she replied.
“Oh hi Lisa!” he said to me when he saw me. “I
was just talking to Niki here; she’s running away too… I was just about to invite her to come with us when you
came.” He said this all like it happened to him everyday… well maybe it did.
“Lisa?” she asked me. When I nodded, she (Niki) turned
to André and said “I’d be delighted to come with you.” This girl was really starting to bug me. But
I couldn’t do anything about it as André talked to Niki and told her our plans to go to the South Pole and meet Santa.
I could tell by her expressions when he told her about the whole South Pole, North Pole thing. When we started trotting along
again and I expressed my opinion to André.
“Does she have to come with us?
I mean she is the mayors daughter” André tried to cut in but I just kept on talking. “AND she’s a
zebra! A Pink Flying Zebra, does that mean anything to you?”
“So she’s a bit different, you know what she could
of done if we didn’t take her?”
“Good point” After what seemed like forever the sun
started to come up.
“We’d better take cover” André pointed out.
“Yeah, got any ideas?” We scanned the area looking
for any trace of something that could cover us.
“That barn house, over there” I exclaimed pointing.
“Well it looks deserted so let’s check it out.”
“It also looks smelly and dirty” Niki said. André
and I looked at each other; this was going to be way harder than I should have been because of her. We trudged up to the barn
and looked inside while Niki waited a couple feet outside the door.
“Well?” she demandingly asked?
“All clear” I answered. “C’mon in”
I told her. Although the place looked like it hadn’t been used for decades.
“Let’s get some sleep so we’ll be good to go
when it gets dark out” André said taking charge as usual. We all found a bundle of hay or something to lie down on until
morning and I fell asleep two seconds after my head hit the hay.
